IME: Sisterhood of Empowerment in Academe (SEA): This Is How We Do It!
Tuesday, September 25, 2018 @ 9:30 am - 11:00 am
Start the year off with a bang! For our first Sisterhood of Empowerment in Academe (SEA) meeting, we are welcoming Dr. Ashalla Freeman to speak on her experiences traversing the academic world. This includes some of her obstacles, but with a stronger focus on overcoming those obstacles and the many successes she has had over the years at UNC. Dr. Freeman is role modeling “how we do it” in academic spaces and beyond!
Dr. Freeman directs the diversity recruitment and admissions efforts for UNC’s Biological & Biomedical Sciences Program (BBSP). Dr. Freeman also serves as co-director of the NIH funded IMSD program. In this role, she works to promote the development and success of biomedical PhD students from groups historically underrepresented in the sciences. Additionally, she develops and implements diversity awareness programming for SOM Faculty Diversity efforts.
