Surviving to Thriving Series: The Hidden Curriculum of Graduate School Flyer. Intended for mid to late PhD/ ABD (All But Dissertation) students. Hosted at the Graduate Student Center on Wednesday, November 16th from 12PM to 1:30PM.

The workshops in this series are designed to provide students of color the skills and tools to successfully navigate academia and toxic working/learning environments, going from merely “surviving to thriving”.

The Hidden Curriculum series will be led/facilitated by: Dr. Deshira Wallance,

Assistant Professor Department of Health Behavior

Gillings School of Global Public Health Fellow, Carolina Population Center

 

 

 

*INTENDED FOR: EARLY PHD TO MASTER’S STUDENTS (Domestic Ethnic Minority Students)*

How do you anticipate and navigate the unknown or the “hidden curriculum” of graduate school? Students of color may encounter situations they are not expecting or prepared to handle as they enter graduate school.

Examples of topics we will discuss:

> Funding

> How to find a mentor

> How to maximize your mentor-mentee relatio

> Building a network

> Managing (your advisor, etc.) up

> Any other topics you want to discuss

This will be a casual conversation, round-table style so please bring your questions and wisdom to share at this session. Join us on Thursday, November 10th from 12PM to 1:30PM.

Please remember to register as lunch will be served and there is limited seating for this event.
