Virtual SEA Meeting: Sister Circle-The Year Ahead
Friday, August 28, 2020 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm
Sisterhood of Empowerment in Academe (SEA), or the Sisterhood, is meant to be a place for women of color to come together, share their lived experiences, and support one another throughout our journey in the academy.
Sister circles have been used in other contexts for black women to work through the ins and outs of their daily lives. We will continue that rich tradition here, to provide affirmation, validation, and support as we all work through this arduous journey called graduate school.
The start of a new academic year is upon us once again and with that come new beginnings and challenges. This year in particular has been a rather stressful one dealing with multiple pandemics (COVID-19 and police brutality to name a few), so now more than ever it’s important for us to be able to have a safe space to gather and support one another. What will it look like navigating grad school during this time? How can we best support one another? What are your major concerns about this upcoming semester? Join SEA for the first meeting of the semester as we welcome back both new and returning sisters and talk about what we think this year will look like for us.
